A bad ass duel-classed bard/ranger. One of the Dusk Riders (hi guys!). Started out in the Randle Morn series (3 Forgotten Realms modules); currently stuck in 'The Night Below'. This pose and armor are taken from a Clyde Caldwell painting.

Oooh, wow, I love that sword. It's so, so, vicious! That's what it is, it's vicious! The sword is called "Nincrist".

I love the detail in the armour. Something says to me that she ought to have a little more thigh to her (I have had some critics get me on that one)...Other than that...she's one chic who won't be asking "Does this make my thighs look too fat?"LOL! Nope more like: "Hey bud! you gotta problem?!"

She's my favorite. Got some meat on her bones. Well proportioned and she's younger looking. I like!

I think she will never win a man with her sword, but with other, more sofisticated and maybe sharper, weapons.(eheh I'm a genius in commenting!)

:-) Andrew P. Morris replies: "Heh heh! No no, Men tend to run from our dear dusty... tho she really is a kitten. No honest! 1"

Okay, I found the painting you used as a reference for this pic. I can see that you changed things, but, nevertheless, I can tell that pose and armor were borrowed. That's the only point I want to make—If another person can tell from where you got the pic (from whose other painting, that is, I have NO problem with photos, in fact, I use 'em myself all the time) then you should think carefully before presenting it as a piece of your own work. Not that you didn't work hard on this pic, I'm sure you did, but so did Clyde Caldwell when he painted HIS pic.
Actually, I don't really have a problem with borrowing a pose (as long as it's a fairly innocuous one—as the one she is standing in is.) You could have had a friend stand in that position, take a picture of them, and use THAT for reference and it wouldn't be copying because you chose the pose and took the picture. All I'm saying, is that it's something to think about.
In any case, it's lovely work on your part, and, you're certainly right in saying that you weren't trying for the same look!

This is a very nice drawing, and I do like her face a lot, but, isn't it considered COPYING to copy another person's painting? Even if you drew the pic, if you copied the pose and armor from another painting I call that cheating. You may love a painting very much, but you shouldn't COPY IT JUST BECAUSE YOU DO! I thought there was a rule against that in Elfwood. Please don't be offended, I'm just pointing out one of the rules of this site.

:-) Andrew P. Morris replies: "Thanks for commenting and you bring up a valid question - when is using a visual reference (of any kind) to draw from not considered copying? Certainly I have seen images in other galleries that I know are from a photo or other artist's work I have seen online, I have never thought that the artist had "copied" the image because of creative decisions the artists had made. They were using a visual reference to a subject, interpreting it in a way that fit their needs and imaginations. I am not trying for the same effect, the same colors, same setting or the same character. It does not attempt to imitate his style, was not traced and while I give him full credit for the inspiration, the details are from my own head. If this is copied then every single picture drawn from a reference anywhere is a "copy" of that reference. Point of fact this might be considered "Fan Art" and if I had enough pieces of fan-art I would consider moving it to the Fan Quarter. But more likely if the ERB had a problem with it I would have been told to remove it (which I would gladly). No offense taken, Good luck with your writing and projects. ~AM"
