SciFi and Fantasy Art: Danette - Bard of Ardaenor

This is a picture I did for a member of our gaming group. Danette is a bard from the Land of Ardaenor, on the continent to the West of Ravenia. As you can see she loves her music!

I have no problem with nudity, but it looks as though the robe is pulled back just to expose a breast. It looks either unnatural, or too intentionally seductive. I agree with all the criticism given so far, but the pose is beautiful and I see where you were going with this.

:-) Andrew P. Morris replies: "The nudity was part of the players request. She wanted the character to be not exactly beautiful but prettier than plain, and to have a carefree sexual attitude. I am glad that something of what was intended is making it through. As I mentioned above this was 100% computer work with keyboard and mouse. "

Not your best to be brutally honest. Starting with the face the orientation of the eyes doesn't seem to match the direction the head is facing. Her eyes at the moment are the shape that they would be if she were facing directly towards the viewer.

The next problem is her neck. With her head lowered like that we should be able to see very little neck, instead we can see almost all of it. If she were to raise her head she would have an incredibly long neck.

The final problem is the guitar. It’s just a flat block of colour that is currently crying out for shadow and texture.

On the positive side the hands and clothing are fine.

Hopefully this has come across as constructive criticism, apologies if it hasn’t.

Regards

:-) Andrew P. Morris replies: "You are right on many fronts. I will work on it a bit more, and post an update. However, there was no line work or scanned drawing. This was all done with keyboard and mouse. "

Yeah, there are some flaws with the drawing, all the ones I am able to see are covered in former posts. The overall picture does catch an image of a bardess using sexuality to enhance her preformances. That aspect is very well captured, it is usually quite difficult to capture without becoming vulgar.

My favorite part is the background. Simple enough not to detract from the subject, but not too plain or without effort or thought. It looks like linen.

Wondrin if you have used a model or reference
as her face resembles another of your characters
proportions are very good
though i agree with previous comment about her eyes and neck
this is my favourite of yours
prob cos i like guitars
and i like her dreamy gaze and expression
